Young adults aged 18 \nto 24 years old dominate around 39% \nof active Instagram users in Indonesia. \nThe purpose of this study is to \nunderstand how couples use Instagram \nto develop their romantic relationships \nand reduce their uncertainty at the \ninitiating stage of a relationship \ndevelopment. The method used in this \nthe research was qualitative with a \nphenomenological research approach. \nThe researchers interviewed two romantic \ncouples, young adults who were active \nInstagram users - log in daily and \nactively engage in the platform. This \nstudy has shown that Instagram has \nreplaced Facebook as the first \ninformation-seeking tool and the main \nplatform for making an initial approach \nbefore face-to-face interaction in young \nadults. The tangible difference lies in \nhow the stranger gets acquainted on \nInstagram at the initiating stage and how \nthey show off their affection of ‘inrelationship’ at the bonding stage.
