Abstract:

Car Free Day (CFD) programs are widely adopted in Indonesia with the concept of a free day of driving with the aim of reducing motor vehicle pollution. CFD is increasingly in demand by the public because it raises various activities. The purpose of this research is to explore the factors that drive society to come to Car Free Day in Indonesia. This research is a type of qualitative research and explorative. Data were collected for 3 months by observing, interviewing, and distributing questionnaires to 400 respondents. The data was then analyzed using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) with the help of SPSS analysis tools. From 10 factors produced by interviews with a number of key persons, the results showed that the factors were reduced to five namely culinary factor, refreshing factor, expression factor, family tourism factor, and business factor. Judging from the Eigen-value, the culinary factor is the most dominant factor in encouraging Indonesian people to come to Car Free Day. The results of this study indicate that car free day in Indonesia, provides more benefits in the form of community happiness, but it does not significantly impact to the improvement of the environment as its original purpose.
